The Golf Widow Trail — 18 Stops for St Andrews
He booked a 10:12 tee time on the Old Course — eighteen holes, played at his own pace. Here’s your round: eighteen stops for pampering, browsing and treating yourself around St Andrews.

1. Spoiled Life — 15 Greyfriars Garden
Coffee in hand before you’ve even properly started. A stylish lifestyle store with a café built right in — clothing, homeware, jewellery and gifts, all browsable with a flat white in your other hand.
2. Topping & Company Booksellers — 7 Greyfriars Garden
A proper independent bookshop, the kind you get lost in for twenty minutes — grab something for the beach later, then head round onto Bell Street to keep going.

3. Sheila Fleet Jewellery — 2 Bell Street
A browse you don’t have to justify to anyone. Built like a walk-through jewellery box — a constellation dome over the door, Scottish gold and Orkney-inspired silver.
4. Jo Malone London — 10 Bell Street
Let them layer a scent combination on you properly — cologne and Body & Hand Wash together, wrist by wrist — while he’s still on the 3rd.
5. Ostara — 165 South Street
Right on the corner where Bell Street turns onto South Street. Formerly Pretty Things, now Ostara — occasion wear and everyday pieces you won’t see on every other high street.

6. Fable — 201 South Street
A wee walk further up South Street, towards the Arch. Antiques, folklore and folk art — the kind of shop you go into for five minutes and leave forty minutes later holding something you can’t quite explain.
7. Farmore Interiors — 175 South Street
One more before you turn back — an eclectic, beautifully put-together interiors shop, worth a browse even if you’re only furnishing a Pinterest board.
8. The Physician — 129 South Street
Loop back down South Street and stop for a cocktail named, aptly, after the town’s own Dr John Adamson. A proper sit-down pause at the halfway point.
9. CombiniCo — 91 South Street
A little exotic snack on the way past — the town’s best Korean and Japanese food, done as a proper convenience-store-style counter.
10. The Crystal Shop Scotland — 61 South Street
And here you are. Hand-picked crystals, gemstone jewellery, incense and gifts, run by a team of seven women who’ll happily talk you through what you’re drawn to and why. If you buy one thing on the whole trail, this is where.
11. Remedy — South Street
Jayne McGhee’s clinic, right after the crystal shop, and the most indulgent stop on the trail. Facials, massage and proper beauty treatments alongside hyperbaric oxygen, infra-red and acupuncture.
12. Gallery Franklin — 53 South Street
A proper contemporary gallery in a townhouse and garden, a couple of doors along from Remedy — worth five minutes even if you’re not in the market for a painting.
13. Victoria Bloom — South Street
Nobody’s bringing you flowers today, so bring yourself some. A proper hand-tied bunch to carry round for the rest of the afternoon.
14. Jannettas Gelateria — 31 South Street
St Andrews’ most-loved ice cream stop. Take yours to go and eat it on the walk to the Cathedral ruins, just along the road, before doubling back up to Market Street.

15. Islander Handbag Workshop — 120 Market Street
Skip the shopping and make something instead. About an hour, no skill required, small groups — you pick the colour, the tweed and the straps, and build your own handbag from scratch.
16. The Gift Gallery — 142 Market Street
Proper St Andrews and Scottish-inspired souvenirs — the wee gifts and keepsakes you actually want to bring home — plus a hot chocolate gift stash worth taking home just for yourself.
17. Hotel Chocolat — Market Street
Something to bring home for whoever’s minding the shop while you’re both away — or, realistically, for yourself on the walk back.
18. 18 at Rusacks — Pilmour Links
The finish. Stop eighteen, same as his round. Up on the rooftop at Rusacks, right over the 18th hole and the Old Course, with West Sands laid out behind it. Order a drink, watch for him coming up the fairway, and get the photo before he knows you’re taking it.
Beyond the shops
If four hours turns into five, or the sun’s out and the shops can wait: West Sands and Castle Sands for the sea, the harbour pier for a walk, and Crawford Arts Centre or the Wardlaw Museum if you want one more stop that isn’t a shop.
Or you can go for a lovely dip and Sauna at the Wild Scottish Sauna - right next to the Old Course!
