About Moldavite  –

Moldavite is a translucent bottle-green natural glass created by a meteorite impact about 15 million years ago. Its wrinkled, sculpted surfaces and cosmic origin have made it one of the most sought-after stones in the crystal world.

It formed when an asteroid struck what is now the Nördlinger Ries crater in Germany, flinging molten rock that cooled in flight and fell across Bohemia and Moravia.

Cool Facts  –

Moldavite is a natural glass formed around 14.8 million years ago when a meteorite struck what is now southern Germany, splashing molten rock as far as the Czech Republic.

It is found almost only in Bohemia and Moravia, around the river Moldau (Vltava), which gives it its name.

It is often said that Stone Age people used moldavite for tools and amulets – a piece was found beside the 29,000-year-old Venus of Willendorf.

Moldavite was prized long before the crystal trade, with the Venus of Willendorf, a figure around 30,000 years old, found at a site where moldavite pieces were also discovered.
