925 means the metal is 92.5 per cent pure silver, with the rest added for strength, because pure silver on its own is too soft to hold a stone. It is the standard for real silver jewellery in the UK and it is what every piece on this page is made from. Silver darkens as it meets the air; a soft polishing cloth brings it straight back, and a closed box slows it down. Take rings and bracelets off before swimming, as chlorine and salt water dull the finish. Hand-picked in St Andrews and posted UK-wide.
