Cool facts: Obsidian of all kinds has been historically used in times of mourning. An Apache legend tells of crying Obsidian tears at the loss of tribal members. Obsidian's razor edge made it a Stone Age tool of choice, and Aztec priests famously polished it into mirrors for scrying and divination.
Obsidian's black colour comes from its iron and magnesium content; the shimmering patterns in Snowflake, Rainbow and Gold Sheen Obsidian form from tiny mineral crystals or gas bubbles trapped as the volcanic glass cooled.
