    About Gold Sheen Obsidian  –

     

    Golden Obsidian, or gold sheen obsidian, is black volcanic glass that glows with a golden shimmer when turned in the light. The sheen comes from tiny aligned gas bubbles or mineral particles reflecting light.

     

    It forms from rapidly cooled silica-rich lava in which streams of tiny bubbles were stretched and aligned as the lava flowed.

    Gold sheen obsidian's golden shimmer comes from tiny gas bubbles trapped in the glass as the lava cooled, stretched into layers.

     

    Obsidian is natural volcanic glass, formed when lava cools too fast for crystals to grow.

    The sheen in obsidian is sometimes called chatoyancy when it forms a sharp cat's-eye band.
