    About Indochinite (Tektite)  –

Tektite is a natural glass, usually black, with a pitted, grooved or bubbly surface. Pieces come as drops, buttons, discs and dumbbell shapes.

It formed when a large meteorite struck the Earth, melting surface rock that was thrown high into the air and cooled as glass.

    Cool Facts  –

Tektites are natural glass thrown up when large meteorites hit the Earth, melting and scattering the ground rock.

Their name comes from the Greek tektos, meaning molten.

Most black tektites (indochinites) come from an impact in south-east Asia about 790,000 years ago.

Despite the label 'meteoric glass', tektites are made of melted Earth rock, not the meteorite; most black tektites come from an impact about 790,000 years ago.
