About Malachite and Chrysocolla –

Malacholla is a trade name for natural stone made of banded green malachite mixed with blue-green chrysocolla. Both are copper minerals, so the data here is for malachite and chrysocolla together.

Both minerals form in the weathered upper zone of copper deposits, where copper-rich water reacts with surrounding rock.

Malachite and chrysocolla are both copper minerals and grow together in the oxidised upper parts of copper deposits.

Chrysocolla is a copper silicate and malachite a copper carbonate, which is why the greens differ – chrysocolla leans blue.

Most pieces come from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Peru and Arizona.

Both malachite and chrysocolla get their green and blue colours from copper.
