About Moss Agate –
Moss Agate is a translucent chalcedony filled with green, moss-like inclusions that look like a tiny garden trapped in stone. Despite its name it usually lacks the banding of true agate.
It forms in cavities in volcanic rocks, where silica-rich water deposits chalcedony around green minerals such as chlorite and hornblende.

Cool Facts –
The green in moss agate is not moss at all but tiny mineral inclusions, usually chlorite or hornblende, that grew in fern-like patterns as the agate formed.
Agate forms in gas bubbles left in cooling lava, filling layer by layer with silica-rich water over millions of years.
Scotland is famous for its agates – the beaches and fields of Fife and Angus have been searched for "Scotch pebbles" for centuries.
The 'moss' is purely mineral, not plant; it is simply green crystals that happened to grow in branching shapes.
