Obsidian's razor edge made it a Stone Age tool of choice, and Aztec priests famously polished it into mirrors for scrying and divination.

Obsidian's black colour comes from its iron and magnesium content; the shimmering patterns in Snowflake, Rainbow and Gold Sheen Obsidian form from tiny mineral crystals or gas bubbles trapped as the volcanic glass cooled.

Ancient Egyptians carved translucent white Calcite (often called Egyptian alabaster) into canopic jars and ornamental vessels found in royal tombs.

Pure Calcite is naturally colourless — its many colours, from warm orange to blue, green and red, come from different trace mineral impurities picked up as it forms.

Nicknamed "Fool's Gold," Pyrite was polished into mirrors by the Aztecs and Incas for scrying, and its spark when struck against steel made it a valued fire-starting tool for early humans.

Its consistent brassy gold colour comes from its stable iron-sulphide composition, which is also why Pyrite doesn't vary in colour the way many other crystals do.

Amethyst's purple colour comes from trace iron impurities combined with natural irradiation within the quartz — the more iron and radiation exposure, the deeper the purple; heated gently, Amethyst can even turn yellow or orange, becoming what's sold as Citrine.

About Black Obsidian  –

Black Obsidian is natural volcanic glass, glossy and jet black with a sharp, clean fracture. It has been knapped into tools and polished into mirrors since prehistoric times.

It forms when silica-rich lava cools too quickly for crystals to grow, freezing as glass around volcanoes.
