Cool Facts:
Natural blue topaz is very pale; the vivid Swiss and London blues are colourless topaz that has been irradiated and heated, a process that has been standard for 50 years.
Topaz is an 8 on the Mohs scale, one of the hardest gems.
Its name may come from the Greek topazos, an island in the Red Sea, or the Sanskrit tapas, meaning fire.
