About Picasso Jasper  –

Picasso Stone is often sold as a jasper but is really a marble, a metamorphic rock made mostly of calcite and dolomite. Its cream background is marked with black, grey and brown lines that look like abstract brushstrokes.

It forms when limestone or dolomite is changed by heat and pressure, with iron and manganese minerals later filling cracks to make the dark lines.

Cool Facts  –

Picasso jasper is actually a marble – limestone metamorphosed under heat and pressure – from Utah, USA.

Its abstract black, grey and brown lines are iron oxide that seeped along cracks.

It is named for its resemblance to Picasso's cubist paintings.

It is named after the painter Pablo Picasso, because its patterns look like his abstract artwork.
