About Rose Quartz –

Rose Quartz is soft pink massive quartz, usually cloudy rather than clear, with a gentle milky glow. It is by far our best-loved stone, chosen for gifts, hearts and palm stones more than any other.

It forms mostly in granite pegmatites, where quartz crystallises in large masses; the pink comes from microscopic fibres of a dumortierite-like mineral trapped within the quartz.

Rose quartz owes its soft pink to microscopic fibres of a mineral related to dumortierite, which is why the colour is cloudy rather than clear.

The Romans and Assyrians were carving rose quartz into beads as early as 800 BC.

Most of the world's rose quartz comes from Brazil, Madagascar and South Africa.

Well-formed rose quartz crystals are rare, and the few good clusters come mainly from pegmatite pockets in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
