About Selenite & Satin Spar

Selenite and Satin Spar are both varieties within the gypsum crystal family and are often referred to interchangeably in the crystal trade. However, they are not technically the same stone.

True Selenite is rarer and typically appears clear or transparent. Satin Spar, on the other hand, is more opaque, fibrous in appearance, and far more commonly available. Most items such as bowls, wands, and decorative pieces are made from Satin Spar.

To avoid confusion for customers, we use the term Selenite/Satin Spar to describe the Satin Spar material widely sold as “Selenite.” When referring to genuine Selenite, we will clearly label it as True Selenite.
