Cool Facts:
Elite shungite can be over 90% carbon; regular shungite contains much less. It comes almost entirely from one deposit near Lake Onega in Karelia, Russia.
It is about 2 billion years old, and its carbon contains fullerenes – football-shaped molecules that won their discoverers the Nobel Prize in 1996.
Peter the Great set up Russia's first spa at a shungite spring in 1719.
