About Kunzite –

Kunzite is the soft pink to lilac variety of spodumene, coloured by traces of manganese. Its crystals are flat, striated blades with a lovely glassy sparkle, and the colour looks deeper when viewed down the length of the crystal.

It grows in lithium-rich granite pegmatites, often alongside tourmaline, beryl and lepidolite.

Kunzite is the pink to lilac variety of spodumene, coloured by manganese, and was named in 1903 in honour of gemmologist George Kunz.

It is strongly pleochroic – the colour looks different depending on which way you turn the crystal.

Kunzite can fade in strong sunlight, so it is best kept out of the window.

It is named after George F. Kunz, Tiffany & Co.'s famous gemmologist, who described it in 1903.
