About Chalcedony –

Chalcedony is a form of quartz made of tiny fibres too small to see. It has a soft, waxy glow and comes in many colours, most often pale blue, lavender, grey and white.

It forms at low temperature when silica-rich water fills cavities and cracks in rock, laying down layer after layer.

Chalcedony is microcrystalline quartz – agate, carnelian, jasper and onyx are all chalcedonies.

Its name may come from Chalcedon, an ancient port near modern Istanbul.

Blue chalcedony was carved into seals and cameos across the Roman world.

It is named after Chalcedon, an ancient Greek town now part of Istanbul in Turkey.
