Blue Topaz is a hard, clear gemstone in sky blue to deep blue. It is very bright when faceted and is popular in jewellery.

Topaz forms in granite pegmatites and cavities in volcanic rock, from fluids rich in fluorine.

Its name may come from the Greek topazos, an island in the Red Sea, or the Sanskrit tapas, meaning fire.

Blue Topaz is the state gem of Texas in the USA.
