About Larimar –

Larimar is a rare blue variety of pectolite, patterned like sunlight rippling through shallow Caribbean water. Its sky-to-turquoise blues and white veining make it one of the most recognisable stones in the shop.

It forms in cavities within volcanic basalt, and is known in gem quality only from a small mountainous area of the Dominican Republic.

Larimar is blue pectolite, found in only one place on Earth – a single mountainside near Barahona in the Dominican Republic.

Its blue comes from copper replacing calcium in the mineral.

It was named in 1974 by Miguel Méndez after his daughter Larissa and mar, the Spanish for sea.

Its name blends Larissa, the daughter of Miguel Méndez who helped bring it to market in 1974, with 'mar', the Spanish for sea.
