About Obsidian  –

Black Obsidian is natural volcanic glass, glossy and jet black with a sharp, clean fracture. It has been knapped into tools and polished into mirrors since prehistoric times.

It forms when silica-rich lava cools too quickly for crystals to grow, freezing as glass around volcanoes.
