About Rainbow Moonstone –
Rainbow Moonstone is a milky white feldspar that flashes blue and sometimes rainbow colours when turned. Mineralogically it is a white labradorite rather than true moonstone, but the trade name has stuck.
It forms in igneous and metamorphic rocks, where thin alternating layers of feldspar develop as the rock cools, splitting light into its colourful flash.

Cool Facts –
Rainbow moonstone is actually a white labradorite – a different feldspar from classic moonstone – which is why it flashes blue and rainbow colours.
The colour play comes from light bouncing between microscopically thin layers inside the stone.
Most rainbow moonstone comes from India and Madagascar.
Those fine black needles often seen inside are tiny crystals of black tourmaline trapped as the feldspar grew.
