About Ruby  –

Ruby is red corundum, coloured by chromium, and is second only to diamond in hardness among natural gems. Fine gems are among the most valuable stones on Earth, while opaque rough ruby and ruby in zoisite are affordable ways to enjoy its colour.

It forms in marble and other metamorphic rocks, and in some basalts, where aluminium-rich, silica-poor conditions allow corundum to crystallise with traces of chromium.
