This is a manmade crystal, often used in industry as an abrasive or in other forms in printmaking and electronics. It is collected for it's otherworldly beauty and sparkle and is thought to be a synthetic alternative to a natural crystal called Moissanite, which has only been found in small quantities in the impact sites of meteorites
