Some argue it is named after the Amazon River in Brazil where it was first believed to have been discovered thousands of years ago, though there are no Amazonite deposits in the Amazon itself. 
 
Amazonite is known as a stone of courage and therefore it is more likely the name originates from the Amazonian Warrior Women and their courageous spirit. 
 
A striking piece of Amazonite was found in Tutankhamun's funerary collection, showing it was prized in ancient Egypt over 3,000 years ago.
Its blue-green colour is thought to come from trace amounts of lead and water bound within the feldspar's crystal structure.
