About Chrysocolla  –

Chrysocolla is a hydrated copper silicate that forms vivid turquoise-blue and sea-green crusts, often mingled with malachite, cuprite or quartz. Its watery, marbled colours make every piece look like a tiny aerial view of a coastline, which is exactly why so many people fall for it.

It forms near the surface where copper deposits are weathered and oxidised, deposited from copper-rich water percolating through the rock.

Cool Facts  –

Chrysocolla is a copper silicate whose name comes from the Greek for "gold glue" – goldsmiths once used it as a soldering flux.

It is often found growing with malachite, azurite and turquoise in copper mines.

Because it is soft, gem-quality chrysocolla is usually one that has been naturally hardened by quartz.

Its name comes from the Greek for 'gold glue' – the ancient philosopher Theophrastus used the word for copper minerals used in soldering gold.
