About Apophyllite –

Apophyllite forms sparkling, glassy crystals, often like little pyramids or square blocks, in clear, white and mint green. Clusters from India, frequently paired with peach stilbite, are among the most beautiful mineral specimens around.

It crystallises in gas cavities in basalt lava flows, alongside zeolites, as mineral-rich water slowly percolates through the cooled rock; the Deccan Traps of India are the classic source.

Cool Facts –

Apophyllite grows as sparkling pyramid-shaped crystals in basalt cavities, mostly near Pune, India.

Its name comes from the Greek for "leaf off", because it flakes when heated.

It is often found growing with green apophyllite, stilbite and scolecite.

The name comes from Greek words meaning 'to leaf off', because the mineral flakes apart into thin layers when heated.
