About Opalite  –

Opalite is a man-made glass, not a natural stone, and we always label it that way. It glows milky blue against a dark background and turns warm peach or golden when held up to the light, which makes it a very pretty and affordable piece.

It is made by melting glass with small amounts of metal compounds that scatter light, then casting and polishing it; it has no geological origin.

Opalite is a man-made opalescent glass, sometimes called "sea opal" or "Tiffany stone".

Its milky blue-and-orange glow comes from the way tiny particles in the glass scatter light.

It is not a natural opal, and we always describe it as glass.

Tiny bubbles are often visible inside with a loupe, a quick giveaway that it was once molten glass.
