About Aventurine  –

Aventurine is a quartz-rich rock (quartzite) sparkling with tiny flat flakes of mica or other minerals. That glitter is called aventurescence. Green is the classic and by far the most common, but aventurine comes in several natural colours, each made by a different mineral trapped inside.

It forms when quartz-rich sandstone is buried and heated until the grains fuse into quartzite. Flat mineral flakes caught up in the rock, such as fuchsite, hematite or dumortierite, give each colour and catch the light.

Cool Facts  –

Aventurine's sparkle (aventurescence) comes from tiny plates of green fuchsite mica within the quartz.

The name comes from the Italian a ventura, "by chance", after a batch of glass with copper flakes was made accidentally in 17th-century Venice.

Most green aventurine comes from India, where it is sometimes called Indian jade.

The name comes from the Italian a ventura, 'by chance', after a happy accident in a Venetian glassworks that produced sparkly goldstone, which the natural stone was said to resemble.
