    About Pink Opal  –

     

    Pink Andean Opal is a common opal from the Andes of Peru in soft pastel pink. It has no play of colour, and often has creamy or darker patches.

     

    It forms when silica-rich water fills cracks in rock and slowly hardens into opal that still holds some water.

    Pink opal is a common opal (no play of colour) from the Andes of Peru, coloured by traces of palygorskite clay and manganese.

     

    Opal is hydrated silica – it can be up to 20% water.

     

    The Inca prized pink opal and it is still Peru's national stone.

     

    Its gentle pink colour is thought to come from tiny amounts of natural organic compounds rather than from metals.
