Romans believed Moonstone was solidified moonlight; in Indian tradition it's a sacred stone linked to the moon god Chandra, often given as a wedding gift.
Its blue sheen, known as 'adularescence', comes from light scattering between microscopic alternating layers of two feldspar minerals inside the stone — a similar effect to Labradorite's flash.
 
Garnet's name comes from the Latin "granatum," meaning pomegranate, after its resemblance to pomegranate seeds — it's been used in jewellery for over 5,000 years, with pieces found in Egyptian pharaohs' tombs.
While deep red is most familiar, Garnet actually comes in almost every colour — the variation comes from differing amounts of iron, magnesium, manganese and chromium within its crystal structure.
