Peruvian Soapstone

Root and Heart Chakras

Aries · Scorpio

Holistic Healing:

Traditionally associated with steadiness, endurance and a deep sense of home. In crystal lore it is also linked to the whole body, to stamina and physical strength, and to feeling grounded and connected to the land beneath your feet.

Metaphysical Traditions:

Regarded in tradition as a nurturing, protective stone – carved stone animals were carried as little talismans for courage and safe return.

Legend says the Picts carried a protective stone amulet in their armour, and carved little stone animals to leave with their children to watch over them while they were away. That old Scottish story is where the Talisman name comes from.

    About Peruvian Soapstone  –

Soapstone is a soft metamorphic rock made mostly of talc, so smooth it feels slightly soapy. It carves beautifully, which is why it has been used for sculptures, bowls and ornaments for thousands of years. Colours range from creamy white and pink to green and grey.

It forms when magnesium-rich rocks such as peridotite are altered by heat, pressure and fluids during metamorphism.

    Cool Facts  –

Soapstone is a soft rock made mostly of talc, so it is easy to carve. These little animals are hand carved in Peru.

Because it is so soft, keep it away from harder stones and wipe clean with a dry cloth.

No two pieces are the same.

The outer layer of Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer statue is a mosaic of thousands of small soapstone tiles.
