About Ruby in Zoisite –

Zoisite is a calcium aluminium silicate of the epidote group that comes in several varieties: green zoisite, often with ruby crystals and black hornblende (Ruby in Zoisite or anyolite), pink thulite, and blue-violet tanzanite. Ruby in Zoisite is the best known in crystal shops, with its bold green and pink contrast.

It forms in metamorphic rocks such as schists and amphibolites under medium to high pressure, and in some hydrothermal veins.

Ruby in zoisite (anyolite) comes from Longido in Tanzania, where rubies grew inside green zoisite rock.

The black flecks are the mineral tschermakite, an amphibole.

Zoisite is the same mineral family as tanzanite, which is blue zoisite.

It was named after Sigmund Zois, an 18th-century Slovenian nobleman and mineral collector who funded the expedition that found it.
