Cool Facts:
Hematite's name comes from the Greek haima, blood – it leaves a red streak and was used as a pigment in cave paintings 40,000 years ago.
It is the main ore of iron and the mineral that makes Mars red.
Polished hematite is heavy and cold to the touch because it is around 70% iron.
