About Unakite –

Unakite is an altered granite made of olive-green epidote, salmon-pink feldspar and clear quartz, giving it a mottled pink-and-green look. It takes a good polish and is widely used for tumbles, beads and carvings. It was named after the Unaka Mountains of North Carolina, where it was first described.

It forms when granite is altered by hot fluids, which convert some of its minerals into green epidote while the pink feldspar survives.

Unakite is a granite of pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote and clear quartz.

It was first found in the Unaka mountains of North Carolina, USA, which gave it its name.

Unakite pebbles can be found on the shores of Lake Superior, carried there from Canada by glaciers during the last ice age.
