Heliodor is the golden-yellow variety of beryl, the same mineral as emerald and aquamarine, coloured by iron.
Its name comes from the Greek for "gift of the sun".
It was first found in Namibia in 1910 and is also mined in Brazil, Ukraine and Madagascar.
