    About Muscovite  –

Mica is a family of sheet silicates, best known as muscovite and biotite, that peel into paper-thin, flexible, transparent layers. Its shimmer adds sparkle to granite and is used in pigments and cosmetics.

Micas crystallise in granites and pegmatites and form in metamorphic rocks such as schist, where their flat flakes line up in shiny layers.

    Cool Facts  –

Muscovite is the commonest mica, named after "Muscovy glass" – the window panes of old Russia.

It splits into sheets so thin they are transparent, and was used in lantern windows and stove doors.

It is a common sparkle in granite and in the sand on many beaches.

Large sheets of muscovite were used as window panes in old Russian houses, giving rise to the name 'Muscovy glass'.
