Malachite is the deep green stone with the banded, eye-like markings, polished here as towers, hearts, palm stones and pendants, alongside raw azurite-malachite specimens straight from the rock. Sizes and prices vary piece by piece.

Malachite is a copper carbonate, which is where the green comes from, and the banding is a record of the water that laid it down layer by layer. It is soft, around 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale, so it scratches easily and is best kept dry and away from harder stones; polished pieces are sealed, but the polish still dulls if it gets wet. Because it forms alongside azurite, many of our raw specimens show both, blue against green. Every raw piece is different, so the photograph is of the actual stone unless the listing says otherwise.
