About Apatite  –

Apatite is a phosphate mineral best known in the crystal world for its vivid neon-blue tumbles from Madagascar, though it also comes in teal, green and golden yellow. Its bright colour and glassy lustre make it an eye-catching stone.

It forms in many settings, from igneous rocks and pegmatites to metamorphic and sedimentary phosphate beds; much of the world's fertiliser phosphate comes from apatite.

Cool Facts  –

Apatite is named from the Greek apate, deceit, because it was so often mistaken for other gems.

It is the same mineral family as the calcium phosphate in your teeth and bones.

It is the standard for hardness 5 on the Mohs scale.

Its name comes from the Greek apatein, meaning 'to deceive', because early mineralogists kept mistaking it for other minerals.
