    About Rhodochrosite  –

Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate in shades from rosy pink to raspberry red. Banded Argentinian slices look like a slice of sweet, while rare transparent crystals from Colorado and South Africa are prized by collectors.

It forms in hydrothermal ore veins alongside silver, lead and copper minerals, and as stalactites in old mine workings where manganese-rich waters drip.

    Cool Facts  –

Rhodochrosite is manganese carbonate, and the finest banded pieces come from the Capillitas mine in Argentina, where it formed naturally as stalactites.

It is Argentina's national gemstone, nicknamed "Inca rose".

Transparent red crystals from the Sweet Home mine in Colorado are among the most valuable mineral specimens in the world.

It is the state mineral of Colorado, where the Sweet Home Mine produced the 'Alma King', one of the finest rhodochrosite crystals ever found.
