Rare purple Angelite Anhydrite freeform crystal specimen

Anhydrite is a beautiful stone which is highly sought after and incredibly rare. The blue variant discovered in Peru in 1987 was dubbed Angelite.

Anhydrite, or anhydrous calcium sulfate, is a mineral with the chemical formula CaSO. It is in the orthorhombic crystal system, with three directions of perfect cleavage parallel to the three planes of symmetry. The material from Madagascar is very difficult to obtain and never available in large quantities. Malagasy Anhydrite has variable purple colour intensity and often found in association with peach Anhydrite and/or Chrome Diopside.

Angelite, also known angel stone, is a glacier blue- or lilac blue-colored soft stone that has a white center and snow-white flecks with occasional brown or rusty inclusions. However, blue anhydrite has not been reported from Madagascar only the purple variety.
