Cool facts: Our Purple Anhydrite is sourced from Madagascar. The blue variant was discovered in Peru in 1987 was dubbed 'Angelite'. Anhydrite, or anhydrous calcium sulphate, is a mineral with the chemical formula CaSO. It is in the orthorhombic crystal system, with three directions of perfect cleavage parallel to the three planes of symmetry. The material is very difficult to obtain and never available in large quantities. 
 
Malagasy Anhydrite has variable purple colour intensity and is often found in association with peach Anhydrite and/or Chrome Diopside. Angelite, also known as angel stone, is a glacier-blue or lilac-blue coloured soft stone that has a white centre and snow-white flecks with occasional brown or rusty inclusions. However, blue Anhydrite has not been reported from Madagascar.
